
Life Skills
The program uses a low participant-to-staff ratio and neuro-affirming practices to provide individualized, flexible supports. Visual tools, plain language, and hands-on learning accommodate diverse communication, sensory, and cognitive needs, ensuring equitable participation and reducing barriers.
Delivered over 10 weeks at four hours weekly, sessions combine instruction, modeling, and real-life practice. Topics progress from communication and routines to self-care, household skills, meal preparation, and financial literacy, reinforcing independence through practical application.
Registration: opens about three weeks prior to start date to allow time for intakes. In the St. John’s office, program runs each quarter. For the regional offices program may be offered every second quarter, or once per year.

Youth Empowerment Program
Youth Empowerment Program focuses on exploring identity, emotional well-being, self-advocacy, teamwork, and leadership through a developmentally appropriate and autism-informed approach. This program has evolved to integrate more mental health, and emotional regulation supports, self-advocacy, and an introduction into social & disability justice through a collective community service project.

The program runs for 26 weeks with two 1.5‑hour sessions per week, balancing structured skill‑building with experiential, hands‑on activities. This consistent schedule supports relationship‑building, continuity, and skill reinforcement while allowing flexibility based on participant needs.
Registration: opens about one month prior to start date to allow time for intakes. Program starts in October and runs until June for 26 weeks with holiday breaks in line with the NL School Calendar

Cooking Workshops
Cooking workshops are designed to be inclusive and skill‑leveled, allowing participants to engage at their own pace. Instruction is hands‑on, visual, and experiential, supporting diverse learning styles and abilities. Adaptations are made to ensure safety, confidence, and meaningful participation for all learners.

Classes are facilitated by Chef Brenda from our social enterprise, The Pantry Café & Gardens, and focus on practical, everyday cooking skills. Sessions combine step‑by‑step instruction with active participation, building consistency and competence across core kitchen tasks.

Registration: Twice a year, usually fall and winter for each round of workshop offerings. Participants can sign up for one or more of the offerings that fit their schedule and skill level, though priority will be given to new participants each quarter.

Transitions
The Transitions is a yearlong employment readiness program intentionally designed with small groups of three participants to ensure low ratios, individualized support, and meaningful inclusion. Programming is strength‑based, accommodating diverse learning styles, abilities, and interests while promoting confidence and engagement.

This year‑long program runs three hours per day, three days per week, providing consistency and routine. Participants engage in structured work‑readiness curriculum, community volunteerism, and hands‑on job exploration within onsite workshops and gardens, supporting experiential learning. As participants progress, they move from skill exploration to real‑world application, culminating in paid onsite work placements at The Pantry Café and Gardens from May to July. This pathway supports increased independence and employment readiness.

Registration: opens in mid-July to allow for intakes to be scheduled in August. Program begins late September and runs until the end of August.

Gardening Group
The Gardening Program is intentionally low‑pressure and adaptive, allowing participants to engage in ways that align with their interests, abilities, and comfort levels. Activities are flexible and choice‑based, supporting diverse sensory, physical, and learning needs while fostering inclusion and confidence.

This seasonal program offers guided gardening activities in backyard and greenhouse settings. Participants are supported to engage at their own pace in tasks such as watering, weeding, pruning, planting, harvesting, and produce cleaning, promoting hands‑on learning in a calm environment. Participants build gardening knowledge and independence through progressive skill development. Growing personal potted flowers and herb gardens throughout the summer encourages responsibility, patience, and pride, with tangible outcomes to take home.
